What Does Bleaching Do To My Hair?
Bleach
is a chemical used to lighten the pigment in the hair. To be
effective, bleach needs a ready supply of oxygen. The most common source of
this oxygen is hydrogen peroxide, a colourless, oily liquid.
Bleaching
the hair changes the colour through the colour spectrum, for example dark brown
hair through to warm red to a very pale yellow. The shades and the final colour
depend on the original colour of the hair.
So very light brown and blonde hair
easily reduces to a much lighter shade than dark brown shades without the need
to use a colour toner, but with
darker hair the final colour after bleaching may still be yellow and therefore
require a toner. To make it white or platinum, it will need to be neutralized
with a violet coloured toner.
