Do you suffer with Trichotillomania?
Trichotiloomania is the repeated pulling, plucking and
breaking of hair with ones fingers. It is an obsessive-compulsive
disorder and it is normally caused by trigger factors such as emotional or
physical stress. Emotional stress plays the biggest part in this.
This can become common for children and young adults when dealing with exams. As students become increasing stressed to try and cope with revising and get worked up that they will fail.
There are a variety of ways to try and prevent yourself or a loved one from touching their hair. A simple alteration for those with long hair is to put it into a ponytail or into bun to prevent you from pulling or breaking the hair with your fingers. Take photographs of your hair over a period of time. This allows you to see the progress or monitor to see if there has been a progression. If so, then reward yourself as a treat for not pulling your hair, this will allow you to have a goal in mind to prevent you from carrying on.
