What can you do to keep your scalp healthy during these periods of shedding?

If you read our blog post last Monday you will know that stress can bring about temporary hair loss. This weeks post provides advice on how to keep your hair healthy during these times.

You may find applying a menthol cream to the scalp and leaving it on for 5-10 minutes once a week prior to shampooing is helpful.  The cream stimulates the blood flow to the base of the follicles which may help the cells to form after the resting phase.

You should use a menthol shampoo to remove the menthol cream.  You will need to apply two applications as this prolongs the stimulation before applying a menthol conditioner.
Applying a menthol conditioner helps to maintain the moisture within the hair shaft so that the hair is less brittle. The conditioner also helps protect the hair from the effect of environmental pollution, dirt, and UV rays.

It is important to also deal with the underlying stress as the trigger factor. Good diet, rest, hobbies and relaxation can all be ways of dealing with this. Do note however that stress-induced hair loss usually occurs after a stressful period when you are starting to recover.
