Does your hair growth back thicker once cut continued...

11:48 BTC 0 Comments

Shaving has No affect on the hair growth, such as slowing down or speeding up regrowth. If shaving could make hair growth thicker then we would not see so many people suffering with hair thinning as we would just employ a shaver and that hair would grow thicker but sadly, this is not the case.
I hope that you have found the blog useful and if you have any tips or suggestions to pass on please to Carol Walker, Consultant Trichologist

Does shaving make the hair grow back thicker?

10:43 BTC 0 Comments

The simple answer to this question is No, it is a myth and not a fact.

Shaving the hair on any part of the body does not have any influence on the growing hair.

The appearance of the hair after shaving is that it looks and feels thicker because the ends of the hair are left blunts after shaving. Regardless of whether you are cutting or shaving the hair from face and legs arms under arms etc., the hair feels much coarser and rougher.

This will be continued tomorrow on http://allyourhairneeds.blogspot.co.uk

Does plucking, waxing, threading or sugaring affect hair growth?

10:05 BTC 0 Comments

The simple answer to this question is Yes.
Hair that is removed by plucking, waxing, threading or sugaring, grows back feeling softer because the hair is reformed within the hair follicle and is formed with a tapered fine soft point.
This type of hair removal affects the growth cycle, by removing hairs from within the hair follicle. The hair follicle then goes into the resting phase before reforming, hence the regrowth is delayed. Repeated remove over time makes the hair regrowth finer until eventually the hair follicle dies.

How do I make my hair look thicker when suffering with anxiety?

10:55 BTC 0 Comments

It is advisable to continue with your normal handling of your hair and scalp such as shampooing, drying, and tonging (if you already use electrical appliances), combing and or brushing.  This care of your scalp and hair is unavoidable, as these procedures are part of the everyday grooming process.  Looking after your hair during a period of anxiety can be beneficial in promoting “the feel good factor”
To seek  to improve the quality of the hair you must firstly look at your diet and eat a balanced diet,  three meals a day  - as healthy hair requires regular intake of protein.

Finally, if you have lost hair,  it may be beneficial to visit your hairdresser to have your hair trimmed to give the appearance of fuller, thicker  hair by the removal  of  the wispy ends.

Have you got anything you would like to share with how you have dealt with this problem? We would love to hear your responses!

Is it unusual to lose hair as a result of anxiety of caring for you hair?

10:00 BTC 0 Comments

It is not unusual if you are suffering hair shedding due to anxiety to a change of how you handle and care for your hair. You may be unsure whether to shampoo or not, whether to use a hairdryer, or a brush or comb.

On an average head there are approximately one hundred thousand hairs and between 50 to 100 of these are shed daily.  Changing your routine, such as moving from daily wet shampooing to only occasional shampoos or replacing with dry shampoos can lead to what appears to be greater hair loss.  This is because hairs that would have been removed  a few at a time during daily wet shampooing will stay loosely in place until the next wet shampoo when they are lost en masse.  This then gives a false indication of the degree of hair loss being experienced and the appearance of a greater problem – and a source of increased anxiety.

Anxiety and Hair Loss

Have you ever noticed how, when you are unwell, your hair lacks lustre and is dull and lifeless and appears to shed more? Unhealthy hair can signal problems such as poor dietary habits, anxiety and emotional pressure.

There are many symptoms of anxiety which are related to hair loss that seem to become self-fulfilling. A common example is thinking that you are going to go bald. It often seems that  living  in constant fear about losing your hair may actually contribute to your own hair loss, as stress and anxiety can lead to a reluctance to eat and rest and undertake recreational activities.

Anxiety and hair loss have a very complex  relationship.  Anxiety can, as suggested above, in some cases, cause hair loss to occur, but it can also make hair loss due to other causes more difficult to control and finally become an obsessive condition, which again is more difficult to treat.

Over the next coming days we will discuss anxiety and hair loss in more detail.

How to get rid of Head Lice

08:30 BTC 0 Comments

A good weekly routine is helpful in looking for and dealing with any infestation especially during the start  of the school term:-

  • Shampoo hair by following instructions on the shampoo product.
  • Condition the hair, again as instructed, but before rinsing off the conditioner use a fine tooth comb on the hair. Taking small sections of the hair in turn, start at the roots of the hair and draw the comb slowly through to the ends.
  • Check the comb for lice, making sure you wipe the comb onto paper towelling after every draw through. Check the comb for lice before returning it back onto the hair and bin the contaminated paper towelling in a plastic bag, using  fresh towel each time you draw through, so that you are not re-infesting the head.
  • Once you have thoroughly and methodically worked through each fine section, rinse well and then apply a leave-in conditioner.
  • If you have found evidence of infestation, then you will need to repeat this procedure two to three times per week until and, once clear, it is advisable to do a check once a week. There are proprietary head lice shampoos which can be purchased over the counter and must be used exactly as directed but use of these is not a substitute for combing as the shampoo will kill the active lice but not remove or destroy the eggs. Over use of shampoo products also diminishes their effectiveness.
  • It might be worth considering make this a fun game for your child to undertake by seeing how many ‘little friends’ they can catch if they use the fine tooth comb themselves.
  • If you are treating a family member for infestation then it sensible to check all family member, including yourself.

Head Lice

13:05 BTC 0 Comments

Things you may not know about head lice (Pediculus Capitis) and why they are difficult to remove from your hair.

Normally head lice infest a new host only by close contact with another individual, who already has head lice. The lice do not jump or fly and hence direct head to head contact is necessary for passing on the lice, such as may happen among children in social situations at play or at school and in parent-child interactions. Humans cannot pick up head lice from dogs or cats.
